(Clemson, SC)—Tile Council of North America (TCNA) presented its prestigious Tile Person of the Year award to Mr. Roger Klein at Coverings 2025 in Orlando, FL.

Roger started providing legal services to TCNA more than 25 years ago while working at Howrey LLP with his law partner, John Bruce, a previous recipient of the TCNA Tile Person of the Year Award.

“It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve as legal counsel to TCNA for more than 25 years,” Roger remarked. “I am deeply honored to be named TCNA Tile Person of the Year. It is difficult to believe that I am receiving an award for doing work that I have enjoyed so much.”

“Roger’s contributions to TCNA, Coverings, and the tile industry are truly immeasurable,” stated TCNA Executive Director, Eric Astrachan. “His exceptional skill, legal expertise, and wise counsel have left a lasting mark, evident not only in the success of his work, but also in the trust he instilled and respect he earned throughout his distinguished career. Roger made sure ego never played a part in any decision, and he always counseled for less lawyering and more negotiating. In my assessment, success is achieved by knowing what to do today for tomorrow, what to walk away from, and when to persevere. In that regard, and for his many successes on our behalf, Roger’s counsel through the years has been invaluable and we were honored to thank him for that at Coverings.”

Roger has practiced corporate and transactional law for more than 50 years and is currently the general counsel at Shulman Rogers, a full-service law firm with its principal office located in Potomac, MD. During his career, he has served as counsel in acquisitions totaling billions of dollars, including several large defense contractors, major sports facilities, luxury cruise ships, and numerous publications.

Prior to joining his current firm, Roger was the general counsel and managing partner of the Washington, DC office of a US-based multinational law firm, where he was directly involved with the organization of its offices in Europe and Asia.

A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, where he was student body president, Roger went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He was appointed by the DC Court of Appeals to serve two terms on the DC Board on Professional Responsibility and was vice chair of the board.

Author of “Political Expenditures,” 231-2nd Tax Management Portfolio, Roger served as an adjunct faculty member at Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law.

Roger’s public service activities have included acting as general counsel on a pro bono basis to various charities, including the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the Montgomery County Students Construction Trades Foundation.

He resides in Bethesda, MD with his wife Gail, to whom he has been married for more than 52 years. They have three children and six grandchildren. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.

The award presented to Mr. Klein was a beautiful, framed tile mural handcrafted by the artist Mr. Barry Perez (Elgin, TX).
