A3263 2021 coverThe American National Standard A326.3 describes the test method for measuring dynamic coefficient of friction (DCOF) of hard surface flooring materials in the laboratory and in the field. The standard also includes DCOF specifications, product use classifications, and guidance on specifying hard surface flooring materials. This standard is intended to serve as a guide to the general public, manufacturers, distributors, specifiers, architects, contractors, testing laboratories, building owners, and other businesses and professionals.

History of ANSI A326.3

Since 2012, the DCOF AcuTest® has been the ceramic tile industry standard for testing dynamic coefficient of friction (DCOF).  The method was contained in section 9.6 of ANSI A137.1, the American National Standard Specifications for Ceramic Tile. Although initially developed for ceramic tile floors, the methodology was equally applicable and useful with other hard surface flooring.  With facility managers, inspectors, cleaning professionals, and forensic engineers using the method increasingly in the field, ANSI A326.3, Test Method for Dynamic Coefficient of Friction of Hard Surface Flooring Materials, was developed based on the DCOF AcuTest® and released in 2017.

Whether you’re manufacturing, specifying, selling, installing, or maintaining hard surface flooring material, it’s important to know its DCOF. Need help? Our lab runs the A326.3 test. Send us your product today or call regarding in-situ testing. Click here to have your product tested by TCNA!
